Attacking Anjali Waghmare ????

What will any sane person get from attacking Anjali Waghmare? I say currently he has nothing to get but latter on we as Indians will get nuisance!

Yes Nuisance!, nuisance of people like Arundhati Roy, Megha Patker, Teesta Setalvad and the other pseudo intellectuals (Sorry I am not a sexist but I am not able to recollect any male pseudo intellectuals :-/). These people, the so called rakhwaallas of human rights, will court an argument that a proper lawyer was not provided to Kasab and he needs to given a free and fair trial. This all will happen after the supreme court would have upheld the verdict and it would just delay the execution of his punishment (which I feel would be the capital punishment – I personally am against giving him capital punishment). Also their cause would be highlighted by our enlightened English media.

Please bear in mind this has happened in past also, it has happed in case of Afzal Guru. I may be wrong this time; the whole human right violation drama would not unfold as there is a very big differentiating point between Afzal and Kasab. Afzal is an Indian national and Kasab is a Pakistani national. But make no mistakes my friends Kasab deserves two things.

First a free and fair trial for not to avoiding the nuisance afterwards but because we are Indians; and our moral fibre is high enough to have patience for law to take its own course. This would also tell the whole world that we can give a free and fair trail to a person who has perpetrated arguably the most gruesome act of terror on our country.

Second is a fitting punishment (which again I would stress is not the capital punishment). His punishment should be such that he repents the gruesome act perpetrated by him for the rest of his life.

In view of the above two points, I will not see Anjali Waghmare primarily as a defendant of Kasab but as a facilitator of our legal system, a system that will ensures both a free and fair trial to Kasab and a fitting punishment for him.

In my eyes Anjali Waghmare is more patriotic than the people attacking her or her house and displaying their token patriotism. The people attacking her house in their short sightedness (in view of coming elections) may think by doing so they are displaying the love for their country but sadly it is not so. They are just delaying the legal process and hampering the law on land to take its own course. Kasab’s trial is scheduled to begin on 6th of April 2009 but if Anjali Waghmare refuses to represent him, the dates will have to be postponed.

With this blog I would request Anjali Waghmare not to give up representation of Kasab as it defeats a much bigger cause and makes tokenism a winner. I would also want the citizens and lawyers of this country to support her. Look at her not just as defendant of Kasab but a duty bound felicitator of our country’s legal system.
